About the IB

The curriculum is developed using the International Baccalaureate (IB) frameworks with the inclusion of Indonesian characteristics and culture.

The IB Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) provides a coherent educational framework from the Early Years – Year 6.  The IB PYP formally commences in Play Group B (Kindergarten). The IB Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) runs from Years 7-10 and the IB Diploma caters for students in Years 11-12, and runs parallel with the national curriculum.

The IB Programmes focus on the growth of the developing child, encompassing ethical, social, physical, emotional and cultural needs in addition to academic development.  Programmes are designed to develop in students the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary for them to become active, independent life-long learners able to participate actively and responsibly in a rapidly changing and increasingly inter-related world. Students are encouraged to celebrate and respect other cultures with the goal of promoting international mindedness.

Commencing during the Elementary years and compulsory in the High School, students are expected to take part in community and service activities, demonstrating commitment to the School and the IB values. As they progress through the three programmes, students also develop the 10 personal qualities as described in the IB Learner Profile.

English is the language of instruction and communication. Students learn Indonesian from Play Group onwards and Mandarin is taught as an additional language from Year 1 upwards. Commencing in July 2010 Mandarin will be introduced into the Kindergarten years.

In the Elementary and Pre-elementary schools, qualified native English speaking expatriate teachers coordinate and deliver a comprehensive English literacy programme commencing in Play Group and continuing through to Year 6.

In the High School, qualified native English speaking expatriate teachers teach in the English Faculty as well as in several other faculties.
