Excursions

Pre-Elementary and Elementary School

An extensive excursion programme supports our curriculum. In each year level, teachers use excursions to develop children’s learning in the various curriculum themes. Examples of excursions at each year level during this school year include:

PYPA:
Visited the Veterinarian Faculty, Airlangga University to learn about the interaction between people and farm animals.
Visited Santu Yusup School to learn how other schools are organized.
Visited YPAB to learn how people with sight disabilities learn about the world around them.
Visited Pisa Cafe to learn about using the five senses and how they work through a cooking activity.

PYPB:
Visited a friend's house to learn about the uniqueness of the family and the involvement in the community.
Visited Citra Raya Nursery in Bukit Bali to learn more about plants, their functions and how to take care of them.
Visited a hotel, a pharmacy and an indoor playground to make comparisons of how different organizations operate.
Visited a cosmetics and herbal factory to observe different kinds of reactions which result in different kind of products.

PYP1:
Outing to Fire Station and Supermal to find information about different kinds of jobs.


PYP2:
Outing to Surabaya Forest City to plant trees.
Visited a corn field and a cow farm to see the processes involved in preparing foods from raw materials.
Visited YPAB Gebang to learn various ways of communicating.

PYP3:
Surabaya City Tour to visit two different housing estates built by different developers in different natural environments.

PYP4:
Visited a traditional market (Citra Raya market) and a modern market (Carrefour) to observe different types of trading places and how trading operates.

PYP5:
Visited Benowo Dumping Site and SDK St. Theresia, Surabaya to learn about the causes of, and how to counteract, climate change.

PYP6:
Visited some orphanages as part of their action about global issues, including lack of education and poverty.
Visited government offices to learn more about the application of children's rights in Indonesia and in Surabaya in particular.

 

High School

Excursions in the High School reflect the work occurring in the various curriculum units being taught. The Science, Humanities, Mathematics, Indonesian and English faculties all run excursions at various times throughout the year ranging from visits to the Lapindo Mud Flow to doing practical work at the Naval Museum and Observatory.

There is also an ongoing programme of guest speakers encompassing most curriculum areas. The highlight last year was the visit of the renowned Indonesian author, Suparto Brata, during Bulan Bahasa.

Finally, students in the High School engage in a large variety of competitions including the Australian Mathematics Competition, Mandarin Competitions held by various Universities in Surabaya and the Stock Exchange Game run by UBAYA, which was won in 2010 by students from Sekolah Ciputra.
